Madagascar Fourth Largest Island

Madagascar is an island nation in the Indian Ocean, off the south eastern coast of Africa. The main island also called Madagascar which is the fourth largest island in the world and is home to five percent of the worlds plant and animal species. Most notable are the lemur of primates, the carnivorous fosse, three endemic bird families and six endemic baobab species.

Despite its location close to the African continent, the first human settlers of Madagascar appear to have come from Asia, rather than Africa. The culture shows the influence of both Africa and Asia.

The Malagasy language is of Malaya Polynesian origin and is generally spoken throughout the island. French is spoken among the educated population of this former French colony. English, although still rare, is becoming more widely spoken. Indians in Madagascar descend mostly from traders who arrived in the newly independent nation looking for better opportunities. The majority of them came from the west coast of India known as Muslim and Hindu. The majority speak Hindi or Gujarati, and though some other Indian dialects also exist a large number of the Indians in Madagascar have a high level of education, particularly the younger generation, which attempts to contribute their knowledge to the development of Madagascar.

Madagascar has got several microclimates due to the variation of the altitudes and its regional ecosystems. The seasons are mainly divided into two main periods. The rainy season from November to March and the dry season from April to October. The length of each period varies from one region to another one.

A holiday in Madagascar is unique, with its rich flora and fauna of such amazing variety and diversity that can be found nowhere else on earth. The warm and friendly people of Madagascar are African and Asian, proud to be from such a racially diverse, culturally rich country.

Madagascar gives rise to its astonishing biological diversity and remarkable scenery. Its of coastline is made up of mangrove reserves, stunning white sandy beaches, crystal clear waters, uninhabited land and coral reef. Madagascar has indeed been geographically blessed.

Madagascar is often referred to as the eighth continent, made up of endemic flora, fauna and wildlife species. It is most famous for its 50 species of lemurs these bright eyed mammals are often seen along with geckoes and chameleons.

Whale watching season is from July to September when humpback whales come into the St Marie channel to mate and give birth. Take part in the observation and preservation of humpback whales in the Indian Ocean.

It is incredibly unspoilt and offers adventure, beautiful beaches and deserts.

East Meets West at Thailand

For those among you have not yet shared in the many pleasures that Bangkok has to offer, I would like to share mine with you. Far from being merely the seedy, hedonistic melting pot of East and West that Bangkok is often portrayed as in the movies, this city offers delights to brighten the senses and awaken the spirits of even the most monotone personalities among us.

While not recommend to those with high blood pressure, the is something to be said for the experience of merely driving into Bangkok. With the sizzling food stalls, the open shop fronts, the omnipresent orchids, the rattle of the three-wheeled tuk-tuks, the saffron of the Buddhist monks, it’s one of Asia’s biggest cities, population seven million and growing.

Bangkok is truly a melting pot of eastern and western cultures, with its own unique blend of spices added for good measure. They like, for instance, the fact that our two countries have royal families, our conservative dress, and understated British manners. But more than that they love our football, with highlights of Premiership matches to be seen hours before we see them here. From what I knew of Alex Garland’s The Beach, Bangkok’s Khao San Road, the international back-packers’ first stop in Asia, was a dangerous, druggy place of sexual sighs behind paper-thin walls, where Western junkies hid from the real world.

While as with most developed societies that that scene may well exist, my visit to the Khao San Road provided me with a very different experience. My personal experience of Bangkok was one of inexpensive hotels, clubs, restaurants and great clubs where one could dance the night away. I was staying in the glistening, towering new Peninsula Hotel, on the Chao Phraya River, in the centre of Bangkok, across from the old city. I was bedazzled by the river. This extremely busy jugular functioning as a highway for speedboats, river taxis, junks and the occasional jet ski for the very brave. I took a riverboat ride upstream from the old port, the Farang Quarter (a foreigner is called a farang in Thai) with its hotels, embassies, shops selling antiques, jewels and fossilised dinosaur droppings, past the beautiful old, dilapidated European customs house and on to the Park Khlong flower and vegetable market. Nowhere in Bangkok is far from a shrine or a statue of the Buddha and, as we pulled upstream passing slums and temples the spiritual presence followed. Some of the best Buddha statues are in the Grand Palace in central Bangkok, where the 15th century Emerald Buddha, made from a single piece of jade, is the most revered.

The blend of spirituality, Asian culture and western speed is something that I have been unable to convey in words. Everyone who visits Bangkok will have heard about its sexy image and every night thousands of Western tourists are drawn to the Patpong area. While some visitors are either tempted by, or visit Bangkok specifically for the carnal pleasures on offer, many like myself find themselves in little more risqué that haggling over the price of a fake Rolex.

Not being so inclined I did not experience any of the sex clubs and similar establishments. But after a quick look around, I was making my way around out of Patpong when a smiling Thai tout in a Manchester United T-shirt emerged from a house of ill repute. “Would you like a beautiful young lady, sir?” “No, thank you,” I replied politely. He hurried after me. “What about a handsome young boy then?” “Don’t be ridiculous,” I said, somewhat taken a back. With a philosophical shrug, the tout dropped back, obviously thinking, “There’s no pleasing some folk.”

But it was not all hedonistic. Hiring a tuk-tuk I sped back into the centre of town where earlier I’d spotted my own carnal speciality. Slipping inside a doorway down a riverside alley, I prepared myself for something really decadent. A beautiful young woman in a long, white dress padded over. Very gently, she took off my footwear then very carefully began to wash them. It was the closest I’ve come to Nirvana since, well, never mind. My feet after a day and a half legging it around Bangkok, were screaming with pain. The young masseuse anointed my feet with sweet-smelling oils, simultaneously pointing out to me, on a map of a foot, how every bone of the foot represented a different organ of the entire body. This, at last, was the exotic East. Later, on the green-canopied ferry as we made our way back across the river to the Peninsula Hotel, I realised that for what seemed the first time for ages I was standing and my feet weren’t hurting. It was all I could do to refrain from dancing with joy.

Travel Registries: The Latest Trend for Wedding Gifts

These days, chances are that betrothed couples already have all of the blenders, towels, dishes, silverware, and other household items they need. With the swing toward men and women getting married later in life, most couples either have individual homes that they’ll combine once they’re married, or they have been building their own trousseau while living together. Because they’re often footing the bill for all or part of their wedding, the one thing couples don’t have is money for the honeymoon of their dreams. That’s why the latest trend in bridal registries is the honeymoon travel registry.

Perhaps a couple wants to go on a cruise, vacation in Europe, or enjoy a Disney vacation. They may dream of four-star hotel accommodations or flying first class on their favorite airline. Whatever their fantasy honeymoon, more and more couples are opting to register with an online travel agency.

With a bridal travel registry, the couple can have their dream honeymoon while wedding guests can be assured that their gifts will combine to form memories that will last a lifetime. And, the process of both registering and giving is easy and straightforward.

Essentially, a honeymoon bridal registry allows the couple to set up a personal registry web page. If the couple already knows their honeymoon destination, they can reveal that on their web page and select items to include in their gift registry. For example, if the couple is traveling to Hawaii for their honeymoon, they may decide they’d like to go to a Hawaiian luau and list two luaus (one for the bride and one for the groom) in their registry. They may also select a romantic candlelight dinner, breakfast in bed, and a hotel room upgrade. They can include entertainment and activities, such as scuba diving lessons, a helicopter ride, horseback riding, and snorkeling. The couple can even add travel items like inter-island flights, limousine service, and a rental car.

Similarly, if the bride and groom have decided that London is their destination of choice, they can include an English afternoon tea in their travel registry, dinner for two at Jamie Oliver’s restaurant, a medieval banquet, and a Harrods’ shopping spree. Perhaps they would like tickets to Madame Tussauds Wax Museum, London theatre tickets, or a tour of Shakespeare’s Globe Theater. If so, they can add those items to their travel registry as well.

For wedding guests, a honeymoon travel registry makes it easy to find a personal, yet remarkable gift. Giving a sunset cruise, for example, is much more memorable than a set of mixing bowls. Gift givers can even opt to send the couple a customized gift card, or print one out and bring it to the wedding.

A honeymoon signifies the beginning of a couple’s life together, and is a welcome relief from the stresses of planning their wedding. Having a honeymoon travel registry can help make the couple’s dreams come true and give them memories to last a lifetime.

ALL ABOUT HOLIDAY TRIPS BY THOMAS H. LINDBLOM

There must be hardly anyone in the entire world who doesn’t enjoy going on a holiday. After all, we all work hard and put away money to enjoy a ‘special holiday’ at the end of all our hard work. Just the word ‘HOLIDAY’ conjures up images of all things nice – sun-kissed beaches, long idyllic walks, eating to your heart’s content and indulging in some serious R & R.
People may go on:
1. Individual Holidays – People take off all one their own just to see the world at their own pace.
2. Family Holidays – A holiday you embark on with your whole family and the very purpose of such a holiday is to spend time with your family, away from the drudgery of everyday life.
3. Romantic Holidays – This is when you take off with that ‘special someone’ either to get to know your partner or to celebrate special occasions together.
4. Group Holidays – People register themselves with a holiday tour operator and go for a holiday as part of a large group.
5. Holidays with Friends – This is probably the most fun holiday, where a bunch of friends holiday together.
DIFFERENT TYPES OF HOLIDAYS
1. Luxury Holidays – If you can’t think beyond soaking in a tub full of perfumed water, room service and gourmet meals, a luxury holiday is for you. This is probably the most relaxing type of holiday, where your every whim is catered to without you even lifting a finger and from where you return looking totally rested and refreshed.
2. Camping Holiday – If you dream of sleeping under the open stars in a tent, cooking meals over a fire and entertaining yourself by dancing around a campfire, a camping holiday is the way to go.
3. Backpacking – Probably one of the most inexpensive yet adventurous ways to travel the world, backpacking is a rage among youngsters and the more adventurous at heart.
4. Nature Holiday – Waking up to the sound of birds, looking out of your room and glimpsing meadows of flowers with maybe a few deer thrown in, that is what a nature holiday is all about. It helps to unwind in the lap of Mother Nature.
5. Cultural Holidays – When in Rome, do as the Romans. To live this, you have to know what the Romans do and how and why they do it. This is what a cultural holiday is all about – you tour a place, you soak in its culture and traditions, and you come away a bit more knowledgeable about a new place and new people.
6. Adventurous Holiday – Enjoy the thrill of riding a rollercoaster? Can’t wait to go river-rafting among the rapids? Exhilarated at the idea of dropping down a 50-foot cliff with nothing but a rope around you? Adventure holidays may just be your true calling. A word of advice – not for the faint hearted!
No matter what type of holiday is your cup of tea – holiday you must, as often as you can.

Macedonia is the Second Largest Prefecture in Greece

Greek Macedonia is one of the most beautiful regions of Greece and an area which will grow in importance as the commercial and cultural centre of the Balkans in the years to come.

Now Macedonia is the second largest prefecture in Greece and its capital, Thessaloniki is the second largest city in Greece. The beautiful Prespa Lakes are one of Europes most important bird sanctuaries and Mount Olympus is the highest mountain in Greece. Thessaloniki is rich in culture and is perhaps the most entertaining city in Greece when it comes to nightlife and eating out and is the birthplace of some of Greeces finest musicians and basketball players. The city of Kastoria on Lake Orestiada is considered to be the countries most beautiful city by the Greeks themselves. The Halkidiki Peninsula with its three prongs of Kassandra, Sithonia and Mount Athos run from crowded tourist resorts to beautiful remote beaches all the way to simple monasticism.

South of Thessaloniki is the peninsula of Halidiki which boasts some of the finest beaches in all of Greece. At one time the prime destination for Germans and other Europeans, the area’s popularity has receded only slightly because of the difficulties in driving through what was once Yugoslavia. People still come here in droves and unless you book in advance you may not find a place. On the other hand the campsites seem to always have room.

Yes, there are still plenty of tourists there, an obscene number in July and August, but the beaches are long, the hotels large and beautiful and there is enough authentic Greek life in the more remote villages to make a traveller here not feel like he is missing something somewhere else. The area is not only known for its amazing beaches but also for the mountains, valleys and the splendid selection of wildflowers in the spring, which may be the best time to be here to beat the crowds.

If you are looking for an area to explore, either by car or local bus, or just a place to settle in and get to know the region and its people, then Macedonia will not disappoint you.

Security concerns continue to prevent faster growth in Macedonia. It has been spared the severity of conflict which has endured in other Balkan countries; the country has nonetheless not escaped unscathed. Even a small internal conflict between Albanians and Macedonians has resulted in security concerns which have negatively impacted on the tourist industry. However, even more importantly, almost all of the countries neighbouring countries are still embroiled in political troubles and economic stagnation. As a result, Macedonia has been unable to count on one of the normally most important factors in the development of its tourist industry, tourists from neighbouring countries. With low domestic travel receipts, the tourist industry remains patchy.

Normandy a Perfect Holiday Destination

Normandy is a strip of northern France between Brittany and the Pays du Nord. It offers picturesque scenery, splendid beaches and quaint villages with a distinctive architecture.

Easily accessible from the channel ports, Normandy is the perfect destination for short stays in France although there is good reason to come here for a longer holiday, especially if you prefer a short drive to your destination.

Normandy is steeped in history, a lot of which is a consequence of the Second World War

The region is beautiful inland and has some dramatic coastline. Information on the area including favourite towns, attractions, beaches, local markets and regional cheese, cider and spirits, as well as our favourite restaurants.

The weather is influenced by the Atlantic, resulting in pleasant and mild summers. In fact the whole climate is very similar to that of Southern England.

Normandy, the region on the central north coast of France, scattered with French Gites and holiday homes, perfect for your holiday in France. Pretty little Gites nestling in the Normandy countryside and holiday homes dotted along the Normandy coast. No wonder Normandy is a favourite holiday destination for Parisians. If you are looking for holiday rentals in France, Normandy is the most easily accessed of all the French regions from the UK.

The Normandy coast extends from modern Le Treport to the Mont Saint Michel and provides an amazing variety of landscapes. The sea has sculpted the cliffs with the pounding of its waves and created an incredible architecture that no architect could have created. The sea seems stretch forever and comes to rest on long beaches of golden sands that have been a favourite haunt of chic Parisians.

Normandy is divided into two areas High Normandy, which runs along the Seine Valley and Low Normandy that is more rugged and similar to Brittany.

It is a perfect holiday destination and boasts some of the most attractive holiday homes in France. One can rent delightful Gites at very economical holiday rental prices all year round to explore this lovely region.

One of the lasting memories you will get from Normandy is a rather sobering one there are reminders of the 2nd World War everywhere in the immense American military cemetery in Colleville sur Mer, the D day landing sites on the coast north of Bayeux, in Arromanches, Avranches, Cherbourg, Ouistreham.

Eating out is a part of the French way of life. Dont have a holiday in France without having a meal in a French restaurant. Although there are many unusual French foods frogs legs and snails you will find many foods that are a true delight. Normandy has some fantastic restaurants.

Seven Secrets To Having More Fun At Disney World

Many kids have one important wish and desire, and that is to visit Disney world. Regardless of whether you experience this vacation wonderland as a child or as an adult, there are several things you can do to maximize the fun and minimize the expenses. Let’s find out how to work a little magic.

1. Protect your health while you travel. Disney world is located in the sunshine state of Florida, so you can expect to have to contend with lots sunshine, harmful sunrays, and warm ( I mean hot) weather. Be sure to pack your sunscreen, sun glasses, and hats. And once you are there, remember to drink plenty of water. With regards to health, there are other concerns as well, such as motion sickness. If you or your child suffer from motion sickness, just say “no” to the wilder rides.

2. Beware of Souvenir Madness. Even the most frugal Disney visitor will surely buy some souvenirs to remind him of his Disney vacation long after he returns home. But its easy to get carried away and go way over board. So we recommend that you agree in advance on a “family souvenir budget” and then be sure to stick to it. Get the kids involved too, so that they know in advance what the limits are, and that they are expected to help stay within the family budget.

3. Minimize Snacking At the Parks. The quickest way to blow your budget is buy buying snacks on-site. The costs of pop corn and ice cream skyrocket once you enter the parks. To avoid spending unnecessary money on on-site snacks, try buying your snacks in advance and agreeing to an itinerary before entering the park. Once everyone has agreed upon the time for the “snack break”, it’s easy to just enjoy all the rides until the “snack time” arrives and then head out for quick snack.

4. Stay at Non-Disney Hotels. Staying off-site can reduce your accommodation expenses considerably. In addition to saving on hotel expenses, you also save on off-site food which would include breakfasts and lunches. This can quickly add up to tremendous savings.

5. Avoid Major Holidays. This may seem logical, but it needs to be specifically mentioned. The top peak seasons when Disney is busiest is from Christmas through New Years day, as well as during spring breaks and Easter weekends. If at all possible, you should avoid visiting Disney during these periods. On the other hand, the best time to visit Disney is after the thanksgiving weekend until Christmas, the second week of January through the first half of February, or the week after Easter until early June. With a little planning on your part, the lines wont be that long after all.

6. Get to the parks Extra Early. You may be surprised to know that the theme parks open about 30 minutes earlier than the “official” opening time. This means that if you get to the parks about one hour before the official opening time, you are at a major advantage above the other visitors. You may be able to enjoy four rides in about one hour if you get a early head start. The same four rides may well require three hours “waiting time” if you arrive later.

7. Plan, Plan Plan! The best way to really enjoy Disney world and get the best value for you money is to plan in advance what you want to do and see. The less time you spend waiting in lines or trying to figure out what to do next, the more fun you will have and the more value you will get for your money!

Therefore, be sure to use these 7 easy secrets and get ready to enjoy a “magical” vacation!
